MG M9 Electric MPV Review: Luxury, Space & Tech in One Package

MG Motor has taken a bold leap into the premium electric space with the launch of the MG M9 Electric MPV. Revealed earlier in 2025 and launched on July 21, the MG M9 aims to redefine what Indian consumers can expect from a three-row luxury people mover. This all-electric MPV blends space, comfort, and technology with zero-emission motoring, targeting both business-class commuters and large families.
Launch and Price
MG Motor began accepting bookings for the M9 with a token amount of ₹51,000. By assembling the M9 in India using Completely Knocked Down (CKD) kits at its Gujarat facility, MG has managed to price the electric MPV competitively. The M9 comes with a price range between ₹65 lakh and ₹70 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it below rivals like the Toyota Vellfire while sitting alongside the upper trims of the Kia Carnival.
Dimensions and Presence
The MG M9 stands out as one of the largest MPVs on Indian roads. It measures 5,270 mm in length, 2,000 mm in width, and up to 1,840 mm in height. A long 3,200 mm wheelbase ensures ample cabin room across all three rows. The large size not only enhances road presence but also boosts interior comfort.
MG’s designers have used a bold, upright silhouette to maximize space and visual dominance. The front features sleek LED headlamps integrated into a wide grille. A large air intake, chrome details, and a full-width LED tail light bar give the M9 a futuristic look. Power sliding rear doors add both convenience and elegance, particularly in tight urban parking scenarios.
Battery, Motor, and Range
At the heart of the M9 sits a 90 kWh lithium-ion battery pack sourced from CATL. A single electric motor mounted on the front axle delivers between 241 and 245 horsepower, along with 350 Nm of torque. These figures help the M9 reach a top speed of approximately 180 km/h, which is impressive for a vehicle of its size and weight.
The MG M9 claims a real-world range of around 430 km under the WLTP cycle. Internal testing by MG suggests the MPV can even deliver up to 548 km under ideal driving conditions. This makes the M9 one of the longest-range electric vehicles currently available in India.
Charging is efficient, thanks to DC fast charging compatibility. The battery can be charged from 30 to 80 percent in just about 30 minutes when plugged into a high-capacity 125–160 kW charger. For home charging setups, an 11 kW wall box can fully replenish the battery in approximately 8.5 to 10 hours. Additionally, MG has provided a compact front trunk (frunk) with around 55 litres of extra storage.
Interior: The Ultimate Lounge on Wheels
The cabin of the MG M9 has been designed to replicate the feel of a luxury lounge, especially in the second row. The middle row features two electrically adjustable captain seats with 16-way adjustment. These chairs offer heating, ventilation, massage functions, calf support, ottomans, and even extendable leg rests. This row provides an experience that feels closer to a first-class airline seat than a typical car interior.
Passengers in the second row get individual touchscreen control panels for adjusting seat position, ambient lighting, and climate settings. The presence of dual sunroofs, ambient mood lighting, suede-leather upholstery, and high-quality plastics add to the plush feel. The doors are equipped with soft-touch materials and ambient backlighting, enhancing the luxury quotient.
The third row is also quite spacious. It accommodates two adults comfortably and includes independent AC vents, USB ports, and manual sunshades. While thigh support is slightly lacking due to the flat seat base, headroom and legroom remain adequate.
The driver and front passenger seats feature power adjustment and ventilated surfaces. The cabin offers plenty of practical storage with deep cubbies, large door bins, and a dual-opening glove compartment.
Technology and Features
The MG M9 is loaded with features aimed at both convenience and safety. Up front sits a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A 7-inch digital driver display handles the instrumentation.
The M9 is equipped with a 12-speaker JBL sound system that delivers crisp audio throughout the cabin. Triple-zone climate control, an air purifier, privacy glass, powered tailgate, wireless charging, and a panoramic sunroof come standard.
The MPV also supports Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). This includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and a surround-view 360-degree camera. These features make long drives less tiring and significantly improve safety.
The M9 has scored a 5-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests, and a Bharat NCAP evaluation is expected soon. The safety package includes seven airbags, ISOFIX mounts, and electronic stability control.
Ride Comfort and Driving Experience
The MG M9 performs admirably for a vehicle in the MPV category. The ride quality remains composed over most surfaces, although the suspension feels slightly firm over rough patches or broken roads. This is likely a result of the low-profile 19-inch tyres designed more for aesthetics and performance than cushioning.
Noise insulation stands out as a strength. The thick door seals, laminated windows, and quiet powertrain ensure a serene cabin experience even at highway speeds. Wind and tyre noise remain low, contributing to a premium in-cabin ambiance.
The electric motor provides instant torque, making acceleration feel effortless. Despite its size, the M9 remains easy to drive within the city, thanks to its smooth throttle response, tall driving position, and well-calibrated regenerative braking. However, its size does become a factor in tight urban traffic or narrow lanes.
While the handling is more comfort-oriented than sporty, the vehicle feels stable even when cruising at high speeds. Body roll is well-managed, and steering response is precise enough for most users in the MPV category.

Final Verdict
The MG M9 represents a bold new direction for premium electric mobility in India. By offering a large, feature-rich electric MPV at a competitive price, MG has made a strong case for the adoption of electric vehicles in the luxury people-mover segment.
The M9’s real strength lies in the comfort it offers to second-row passengers, its strong electric performance, and its futuristic design. While it has minor flaws—like a slightly firm ride and some cost-cutting on interior materials—none of these issues break the core experience. For chauffeur-driven buyers, large families, or fleet operators looking to electrify their premium transport, the MG M9 sets a new benchmark.
This is not just a step forward for MG Motor—it marks a major leap for India’s electric vehicle market as a whole.
