Cocktail 2 Review: Stylish Film But Weak Storytelling

I finally watched Cocktail 2 after hearing a lot of discussion online, and honestly, I came out of the theater disappointed. I had decent expectations because the first Cocktail became a memorable Bollywood film with strong characters, fun moments, emotional depth, and a story that stayed with people for years. Sadly, this sequel fails to create the same magic.

The film looks expensive and polished, but a beautiful film alone cannot save weak writing. After watch, I can say Cocktail 2 feels like a film that focuses too much on style and forgets what made the original special.

For me, this film deserves 2 out of 5 stars.

The Story Feels Empty

The biggest problem with Cocktail 2 is its story. The film follows another love triangle, very similar to the first movie, but this time everything feels forced. There is very little emotional connection between the characters, and many moments feel artificial.

The original Cocktail had relationships that felt natural. You could understand every character and their feelings. Here, I never felt attached to anyone. The emotional scenes fail to create impact because the writing does not build strong connections between the characters.

At many points, the story becomes predictable. You can guess what happens next long before the film reaches that moment. Because of this, the excitement disappears very quickly.

Kriti Sanon Gives The Best Performance

If there is one strong part of the film, it is Kriti Sanon. She easily gives the best performance among the lead cast. Her emotional scenes feel believable, and she puts genuine effort into her role.

Whenever she appears on screen, the film feels more alive. She brings maturity and sincerity that many other parts of the movie lack. You can clearly see she carries a lot of emotional weight in the film.

Without her performance, the film would feel even weaker.

She definitely becomes the strongest reason to sit through the movie.

Shahid Kapoor Feels Underwhelming

I usually enjoy Shahid Kapoor films because he often brings energy and strong screen presence. But in Cocktail 2, something feels missing.

His character never gets proper development, and because of that, his performance does not leave much impact. It feels like he tries to make the role work, but weak writing limits what he can do.

Some emotional scenes needed stronger delivery, but instead, many moments feel flat.

This is not one of Shahid Kapoor’s better performances.

Rashmika Mandanna Does Not Leave Much Impact

Rashmika Mandanna has become very popular lately, so I expected more from her role. Unfortunately, the film does not give her enough space to shine.

Her character feels underwritten and lacks depth. Because the writing feels weak, her performance never reaches a point where the audience feels emotionally connected.

There are scenes where chemistry between her and Shahid Kapoor should feel strong, but instead, everything feels awkward and unconvincing.

After the movie ended, I honestly felt her character could have been much better.

Beautiful Visuals Cannot Save Weak Writing

One thing nobody can deny is that Cocktail 2 looks beautiful.

The film has gorgeous locations, especially scenes shot in Sicily. The cinematography looks premium, the costume design looks stylish, and almost every frame feels polished.

The filmmakers clearly spent a lot of money on presentation. Every scene looks attractive and modern.

But after some time, I realized beautiful visuals only work when the story supports them. Here, it feels like the movie spends too much effort on appearance while the screenplay stays weak.

A good-looking film cannot replace good storytelling.

Music Is Decent But Not Memorable

The original Cocktail gave Bollywood songs that people still remember today. Naturally, I expected strong music from the sequel.

The songs in Cocktail 2 are decent and fit the modern Bollywood style. A few tracks sound enjoyable while watching the film, but none feel memorable enough to stay with you after leaving the theater.

That becomes another disappointment.

The soundtrack works in the moment, but it does not create the long-lasting impact people hoped for.

The First Half Feels Better Than The Second

The first half actually starts well. There are some funny scenes, light comedy moments, and enough energy to make you believe the film may improve later.

But after interval, everything slows down badly.

The second half feels stretched and unnecessarily long. Emotional scenes repeat the same drama again and again without adding anything new. Some scenes feel like they exist only to increase runtime.

This is where the film starts losing momentum.

By the final act, I simply wanted the movie to finish.

It Fails To Match The Original Cocktail

The biggest challenge for this film was comparison with the first Cocktail.

The original movie worked because every character had personality. The friendship felt genuine, the romance felt natural, and the emotional conflict made sense.

Cocktail 2 copies the same formula but misses the heart that made the first film memorable.

Instead of creating something fresh, it feels like the filmmakers relied too much on nostalgia.

That becomes very obvious while watching.

I kept remembering how much better the original movie felt.

Audience Reaction Feels Divided

After the release, social media reactions started appearing everywhere, and opinions seem very mixed.

Some viewers call it a fun one-time watch because of the glamorous visuals and attractive cast. Others criticize the weak screenplay and call it style over substance.

After my own experience, I understand why reactions feel divided.

If someone only wants light entertainment and beautiful visuals, they may enjoy parts of it.

But viewers who expect strong storytelling will probably leave disappointed.

Final Verdict

After watch, I can say Cocktail 2 had potential but fails to deliver where it matters most.

The film looks expensive, has attractive locations, decent music, and one very strong performance from Kriti Sanon. But the weak screenplay, poor emotional depth, predictable story, underwhelming chemistry, and stretched second half make the overall experience disappointing.

This movie tries hard to recreate the magic of the original Cocktail, but the emotional charm simply is not there.

I expected much more from a sequel connected to such a loved Bollywood film.

For me, Cocktail 2 feels like a stylish but empty film that looks beautiful on the outside but lacks substance underneath.

My Final Rating: 2/5 Stars.

Watch it only if you are a fan of Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, or glossy Bollywood romance films. Otherwise, waiting for OTT feels like the better option.
